I'm not sure which of the shyness forum sections this would belong in but... i often find myself, whenever i try to do something that i perceive as difficult, i always feel like crying. im 21 and imma baby, but that's ok. It's just bad though, I'll sometimes want to go and apply for a job... but i'll just sit in my car, and refuse to go inside, or just drive on by, then i'll think something really negative and start crying- and it's just like "Oh, great- I can't go apply for a job now!"

I would often pass up on applying for jobs. It is still the hardest thing to do. The crying would come later, after I had to leave the job because it didn't work out.
Are you working now? It is best to do some volunteer work. You can usually get really short one or two hour shifts a few days a week. that makes it easier and you gradually get used to dealing with it. Hospitals can be good places to look for volunteer jobs.

glad i'm not the only one passing up opportunities
nope, don't have a job now. (had 2 interviews this past week though! ) I hadn't really thought that much about volunteering, but that would probably be a good thing for me.

I hope the interviews result in a job. Does interviewing get easier the second time? I hope so. I have not interviewed for a job in years. My current job started out as a part time with just a few hours a day. That is the only thing that made it bearable at first. Now I can work 8-10 hours at a time without too much difficulty.

I don't really find myself crying like that. But I do find myself avoiding jobs like you do. I just don't like being in situations where I have to deal with the public a lot or be in large groups. I've gotten away with my social anxiety by working midnight shift in security. But when I had to move back to my home town just a few months ago I find that there are no security jobs anywhere and those that are I have to deal with the public constantly. I don;t mind going to stores much because the stories I go to are usually open during the times I like to be up meaning midnights. And when I have to go into stores during the day it's straight back to when I need to get and then up to the registers and out the door. I don't talk to people unless I have to. Sometimes I hope beyond hope that some lovely lady will notice me and be able to brake through my fear and my tunnel vision. But at 32 and chubby (because like everyone I eat when I'm stressed and I'm almost always stressed,) I don't think that that will ever happen. But enough of my rant and I'm way off topic so yes I do feel what you feel sometimes.
