Since this forum suggests conversation about body issues, I thought I would admit that I often feel self-conscious about how I look when I'm out. I feel like everyone stares at me... and I don't particularly care if they're staring because they think I am attractive or an ugly duckling, the whole thing just gets on my nerves. I think I am overly sensitive, but I don't feel like making conversation with strangers just because I seem to get their attention. Sometimes I wish I could just throw a paper bag over my head, or disappear into a hole in the floor. Embarrassed

I would suggest that Shy people want the world to see them as perfect.. which is why they get into a twist about whether they are showing the world the "right" mask.

Their excessive concern for what others think of them is based on the sub-conscious belief that if they can present themselves as perfect, their lives will become perfect.
And they blame their imperfect lives on their inability to project the "perfect image" to others.

This is also a large part of the reason why Shy people can't be Happy.
They seek perfection.

One solution seems to be to be to be able to peel of all our masks, if only to friends.. others like us.. show the the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. That we are strong and radiant, as well as weak and vulnerable. To be able to laugh like Dr. Evil... and to also cry like a baby. To feel that we are understood and not alone. To know that there are others like us... and that we're important to someone who doesn't owe or need us.

Another might be to realise that there is no absolute Meaning to Existence.
That Meaning must come from your self. Only then will you be able to Enjoy Life.

Live, Drink & Enjoy, until the Life is found !

Hello. Guess I thought I'd chime in while we are on this subject. I've had--and likely still got-- my issues re: body image. Was acutely overweight when I was 8- 11 yrs, which made me the target of verbal & physical bullying. Though I slimmed down once I got into my teens, the remarks still haunted me.

Plus, I'm shorter than what's considered "manly" by most women on these dating sites (the desired range being 5'10 & over.) So it's rather discouraging to come across the profile of somebody you'd consider contacting & maybe pursuing more with, only to have that hope dashed when looking at the lists of "requirements" cited in the About My Match section or in their personal description of what they seek or eschew. As expected, I have mine, tho I have yet to post a concise-and-nice description of myself that's neither bashful nor boastful.

Thanks & Good Day!

Being picked on as a kid certainly has a way of making you overly sensitive. Adults, for the most part, will not tell you that you have an ugly looking face, but kids will just be brutal about it.
Having a parent that lies to you and tells you that you are not ugly only makes things worse, because you constantly doubt yourself when you look in the mirror.

` What really sucks is that little smirk that people get on their faces when they see your face for the first time. It's as if they want to laugh, but are holding it back.
That really hurts.

`I think i'm kinda sensitive on how I look too, i'm told im not ugly, i've been told i'm cute, i'm told lots of things like that but i never believe them, i always think that im ugly, i've never seen any reason for me to believe what they've told me is true. it seems like nobody really wants me in any way. to me, when someone looks at me, it seems like i did something wrong or something looks weird on me. when i look at people though i feel like a big creepy pervert =(

`RE: grahamm.

Thank goodness someone who understands, i was beggining to think i was completley and totally alone in my thinking, ive been goin trough the same emotions and feelings as you, people say im good looking etc but its just words and people also look at me, friends say because im handsome but i hate it because i automatically think the opposite that im some kind of freak, and when im around someone i like i feel like so disgusting, i also feel like people are treating me like an idiot because i am shy and i have body issues.
