I've always had trouble dating due not only to shyness, but as I now realize, my Asperger-syndrome qualities. I've been diagnosed as on the spectrum, but only a little, maybe 10%. I've had two relationships in my life, one for 23 years that I ended finally and with great difficulty; the second was 6 years long and is in the process of ending now, at the initiative of my partner this time. I'm devastated, and seeking alternative ways to begin making friends, both female and male, and begin understanding how I might find a relationship that is good for both of us and will last.
